Project summary:
the goal was to create a t-shirt design for the wheaton college swim and dive team to have for their end of season meet. it was a very open ended request made by their head coach.
where did i start?
i found hype images of the swimmers and divers from folders of photos the coach sent my way. I chose six of them that stood out to me as high energy. they were also just super cool action shots.
i down selected from those six photos to the three edited ones below. i edited them to be posterized in a comic book esq style.
from here, i down selected even further. I ended up deciding not to use the image of the diver because the background just wasn’t as interesting as the other two. then I took the two pictures i decided on, and put arranged them alongside a team phrase “fire it up” and a posterized wave.
next, i made variations of this by cleaning up the lines to be less cluttered for print9ing on a shirt, adding blue bars for more visual flair, and changing the font.
Then i made a simple design for the front of the shirt that incorporated the school’s logo.
the final step was to make mock-ups to send to the coach.
and a month later, i got to see the finished product at the meet!
